Mondas partner Enmova integrates large pool of PV power plants into mondas®-based data platform.

At practically one blow, the Freiburg-based company Enmova GmbH connected more than 1,200 commercial photovoltaic systems to their novel PV operation management platform based on mondas® technology. Operation management companies can now use one platform for the monitoring and in-depth analysis of their entire PV power plant portfolio’s operating status. With this further addition, Enmova now monitors over 2,000 commercial rooftop installations with a total capacity of more than 293 MW.

“The quick integration of the new systems is yet another testament to the high quality of Enmova’s operation management platform,” says Björn Müller, CEO of Enmova GmbH, a spin-off company of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) located in Freiburg. “Especially commercial plant operators who need to monitor a vast portfolio of PV systems expect a great deal from their monitoring software,” Björn Müller emphasizes. IoT monitoring needs to be easy to use, require minimal human resources, but also allow for deeper data analysis. Conventional PV remote monitoring solutions have not been able to fulfill this.

Better overview in monitoring

The novel PV operation management platform by Enmova allows power plant operators to display the state of all systems using a so-called Health Index to measure the systems’ “state of health”. The Health Index is calculated in the background through extensive real-time data analysis, allowing operation managers to instantly see which systems require special attention. Additional Enmova apps help prioritize system faults and maintenance rounds based on financial criteria.

Easy to connect and fast

The IoT monitoring platform now in use was developed by Mondas and expanded and tailored to fit the requirements of commercial PV system operators by Enmova.
One major advantage of mondas® technology is the platform’s high data connectivity and the high analysis performance. If new systems are added, they can be connected quickly and easily, and their data analysis begins straightaway. This is an enormous advantage, especially when the growth of solar power plant capacities is dynamic, as is currently the case.

In the future: Optimization of local energy systems

“Another unique selling point of the mondas® technology we use is its openness to technology,” emphasizes Mondas CEO Volkmar Boerner. Next to their solar power plants, PV operation management companies would then also be able to analyze and optimize the interaction of related electricity storage systems, heat pumps or e-charging stations on a common platform.

Our Partner Enmova GmbH

Enmova GmbH was founded as a spin-off company of the Fraunhofer-Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg in the autumn of 2021. The team is made up of photovoltaic and IT experts and has many years of experience in simulating, monitoring and operating photovoltaic systems. Prior to founding Enmova, Managing Director Björn Müller worked as a post-doctoral mechanical engineer and business graduate at Fraunhofer ISE, where he was in charge of the task force “photovoltaic power plants”.
