The smarter E Europe: Flexibility, BESS, and Open Platforms Are Shaping the Future of the Energy Transition

With more than 100,000 trade visitors, around 2,800 exhibitors, and the entire energy value chain gathered in one place, this year's The smarter E Europe once again confirmed its position as Europe's leading exhibition alliance for the energy industry. For the Mondas team, the trade fair was the ideal opportunity to showcase our data platform to a highly engaged audience of energy professionals, customers, partners, and industry experts from across Europe.
Three major trends emerged from the conversations at our booth.

 1.  Battery storage systems are becoming the driving force behind the energy transition

You could feel it throughout the exhibition halls: the battery storage market is booming. As a result, demand for vendor-independent software to monitor battery energy storage systems was exceptionally high at our booth. Focusing our exhibition presence on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) proved to be exactly the right decision.

Visitors were particularly impressed by our new solution, Mondas BESS. In addition to comprehensive technical monitoring and intelligent operational management, the software supports automated reporting and regulatory documentation. It is vendor-independent, highly scalable, and provides automatic alerts while visualizing the battery's State of Health (SoH), charge cycles, and discharge cycles.

The response from visitors was overwhelmingly positive.

2. PV and BESS are becoming the new standard

The second major trend—and for Mondas perhaps even more significant—was clear: new photovoltaic (PV) installations are now being developed primarily in combination with BESS.

For good reason. Battery storage enables the optimal balancing of solar generation and energy consumption based on multiple operating criteria, creating significant economic benefits while becoming a key component of modern energy management.

Mondas BESS: Mondas’s new software was very well received at Smarter E Europe in Munich.

One of the highlights at our booth was a live demonstration based on a large commercial butcher shop operating a 660 kW PV system together with a 1 MWh battery storage system.

Visitors were able to follow real-time energy flows and see how the company optimizes electricity imports and grid feed-in using Mondas BESS and Mondas PV, incorporating consumption analytics as well as weather and generation forecasts.

At the same time, the platform continuously monitors the operational status of all energy assets. The combination of technical monitoring and energy optimization, together with intuitive dashboards displaying performance ratio, inverter performance, energy yields, and target-versus-actual comparisons, attracted considerable interest throughout the exhibition.

3. Open platforms are winning the race

A third trend became evident in almost every conversation: open software platforms are no longer just the future—they are already becoming the industry standard.

Customers are looking for a single platform capable of integrating multiple data sources, connecting heterogeneous systems regardless of manufacturer, and scaling with future technologies. This level of scalability is becoming increasingly important for operators managing growing C&I energy portfolios.

Flexibility is part of the DNA of Mondas Core, our generic data platform. Its vendor-independent architecture grows alongside customer requirements, can be expanded quickly, and brings together monitoring, documentation, analytics, and optimization within a single centralized platform. This puts Mondas in an excellent position to support the energy projects of today and tomorrow.

Conclusion

The smarter E Europe 2026 clearly demonstrated that flexibility, digitalization, and intelligent connectivity are defining the future of energy management.

For Mondas, the exhibition was much more than a product showcase. Instead, it confirmed that our software solutions are designed to meet the evolving requirements of modern energy management.

We sincerely thank all customers, partners, and visitors for the many inspiring conversations and look forward to turning these ideas into successful projects together.
