Virtually in one fell swoop, Freiburg-based Enmova GmbH has connected over 1,200 commercial photovoltaic systems to its novel PV operations management platform based on mondas® technology. Operational management companies can thus monitor the operational status of their entire PV plant inventory on one platform and analyze it in depth. The new addition brings the PV portfolio monitored by Enmova to over 2,000 commercial rooftop installations with a total capacity of 293 MW.

“With the rapid connection of the new plant pool, we are once again demonstrating the high quality of the Enmova operations management platform,” says Björn Müller, Managing Director of Freiburg-based Enmova GmbH, a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE. “Commercial plant operators in particular, who have to monitor large photovoltaic portfolios, have the highest demands on monitoring software,” emphasizes Björn Müller. IoT monitoring should be easy to use, tie up few human resources, but at the same time allow deeper data analysis. Until now, this was not possible with conventional PV remote monitoring solutions.

More overview in monitoring

Enmova’s novel PV operations management platform allows plant operators to view the condition of all plants using a so-called health index as a measure of the “health” of the plants. The Health Index is calculated in real time in the background using extensive data analysis. Operators can immediately see which assets require special attention. Further Enmova apps can then be used to prioritize plant faults and maintenance trips according to economic criteria.

Connection-friendly and fast

The IoT monitoring platform now in use was developed by Mondas and adapted and extended by Enmova to meet the needs of commercial PV plant operators.
A major advantage of the mondas® technology is the high data connectivity of the platform and the high performance in analysis. If new plants are added, they can be connected easily and quickly, and data analysis starts immediately. Especially when solar power plant capacities are growing dynamically, as is currently the case, this is an enormous advantage.

In the future: Optimization of local energy systems

“Another unique selling point of the mondas® technology used is its technological openness,” emphasizes Mondas Managing Director Volkmar Boerner. PV operations management companies can then – in addition to their solar power plants – also analyze associated electricity storage systems, heat pumps or e-charging stations, for example, on a common platform and optimize their interaction.

Our partner Enmova GmbH

Enmova GmbH was founded in the fall of 2021 as a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg. The team of photovoltaic and IT experts has many years of experience in the field of simulation, monitoring and operation of photovoltaic systems. Before the spin-off of Enmova, Managing Director Björn Müller worked at Fraunhofer ISE as a mechanical engineer with a doctorate and a degree in business administration, where he headed the “Photovoltaic Power Plants” working group.
